Casting Aluminum Alloys
Content and Application Scope
This Standard sets forth technical requirements and inspection rules for casting aluminum alloys.
This Standard applies to the production of aluminum alloy casting and shall be used in conjunction with the National Standard GB 9438 Aluminum Alloy Castings – Technical Specification.

Designation of Alloy
The designation of casting aluminum alloys shall be in conformity with the provisions as specified in GB 8063.
Code of Alloy
For the purpose of this Standard, the code of alloy posed of letter “Z,”“L”(They are the first letter of Chinese spelling of “Casting” and “Aluminum” respectively) and 3 digits following them. The first digit following ZL indicates the alloy system (for example, 1, 2, 3 and 4 indicate aluminum-silicon alloy, aluminum-copper alloy, aluminum-magnesium alloy and aluminum-zinc alloy respectively), and the second and third digits following ZL indicate serial number.
A letter “A” is attached behind the digits for high-quality alloy.

The position of casting aluminum alloys is listed in Table 1 hereof, and permissible content of impurities is listed in Table 2 hereof.
Aluminum-silicon alloys which need be modified shall be modified with sodium (sodium salt). Under the preconditions that the functional performance of alloys will not be reduced, it is allowed to modify them with other modificator or by applying other modifying method.
If used in marine environment, the content of copper in Alloy ZL101 may not exceed 0.1%.
If cast with metal mold, the content of silicon in Alloy ZL203 may reach 3.0%.
If the content of iron in Alloy ZL105 is higher than 0.4%, the content of manganese shall be no less than half the content of iron.
If Alloy ZL201 or ZL201A is used to make any part which is to work at high temperature, zirconium shall be added in such alloy and its content shall reach 0.05%~0.20%.
For the purpose of improving mechanical property, 0.08%~0
