Why do we need a text book when we teach?
How can a text book help us to teach?

Aims of the Unit
- to understand the purpose for teacher’s evaluating and adapting textbooks;
- to learn the methods for evaluating textbooks;
- to get to know the methods for selecting textbooks;
to get to know the methods for adapting textbooks.
I. What is Textbook Evaluation?
The core of systematic textbook evaluation is to examine how well a given textbook matches the needs of a language program and how effectively and efficiently it can realize the objectives of the program.

Activity 2: Group Task: Choose 1 lesson to read carefully in this textbook.

What are the AIMS or GOALS of the lesson?
What is the final Production: how will students use language in a realistic and useful way in this lesson?
What (1 or 2) specific skills are focused on in each step
Which parts are presentation, practice, and production
How does the anise different steps (individual work, pair work, etc.)?
Which Vocabulary is reviewed or presented?
What Grammar or ‘Language Focus’ is presented?
