Established in memory of longtime Princeton instructor and critic h Stone Kassler, the endowed series periodically brings the leading archi- tects and thinkers of the day to speak to students at the school. No period in the series’ history has been more fruitful in doing so than the tenure of Dean Stan Allen, who brought a ession of international architectural luminaries onto the Princeton campus to talk about their work. The idea to transform the Kassler Lectures into a series of books— although in the air from the very start—also solidified under Dean Allen’s leadership, following the enthusiastic response in 2009 to Toyo Ito’s lecture. Startling in its simplicity of format, clarity of rhetoric, and richness of visual imagery, the very nature of Ito’s presentation mended its publication.
