Traditional security monitoring systems using coaxial cables and VCRrecording systems are expensiveand ineffective. With the rapid growth of the , it is now possible to use it as an intermediate transmissionmedium to support real-time video transmission. This paper proposes a web-based remote monitoring systemknown as iSecure. Apart from the essential live or stored video transmission, intelligent monitoring and web-based monitoring are also supported. As the transmission of live video data through the packet workenvironment of the canresult in packet loss andquality degradation, the iSecure systemhas implementedanadaptive transmission and recovery mechanism to enhance the quality of real-time video transmission. Intelligentmonitoring for elevator security andface-based door access control applications has been incorporated. TheiSecuresystem can be used as a framework for developing other intelligent remote monitoring :remote video monitoring, web-based monitoring, intelligent monitoring, real-time videotransmission, world wide web1. IntroductionTraditional monitoring systems have been widely used for security purposes for bank,elevator, entrance to apartment, etc. In such systems, a video camera is usually installed atthe destined location and connected to a security console where the security operator canmonitor for suspicious activities. The video images from the camera can also be recordedand played back on a VCR machine. However, the picture quality of the video-tape is is also impossible to search the recorded images for any desired information.
