1 Scope
The standard specifies technical requirements of protecting driver from being injured by
steering mechanism, a test method for measuring the backward movement of the steering
wheel in the event of the frontal impact and a test method for measuring energy absorption in
the event of impact against the steering wheel.
The standard applies to the behavior of the steering mechanism of motor vehicle of category
M1, expect forward control vehicle and normal control vehicle.
2 Definitions
For the purpose of this standard.
Steering mechanism
Steering mechanism means the prising the steering control, the steering
column, the assembly accessories, the steering shaft, the steering gear housing, and all other
components such as those designed to contribute to the absorption of energy in the event of
impact against the steering wheel.
Body block
Body block means body model and head model that apply impact force to the steering wheel.
Impact speed
Impact speed means the transient speed at the moment of impact.
Impact force
Impact force means the horizontal force that body block applies to the steering wheel.
