GB/T 19233-2003
National Standard of the People's Republic of China
Measurement methods of fuel consumption for light-duty vehicles
1 Scope
This national standard specifies the testing and calculating methods of fuel consumption by the
carbon balance method using the measured emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide
(CO) and hydrocarbon (HC) during the test cycle simulating the urban and extra-urban driving
patterns.
This national standard applies to vehicles of category M1 powered by positive-ignition engine or
compression-ignition engine with a maximum design speed of 50km/h or more and vehicles of
category M2 and N1 with a maximum design total mass not exceeding tons.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purpose of this national standard, the terms and definitions given in GB -2001
apply.
4 General requirements
The emissions of CO2,CO and HC shall be measured during the test cycle simulating the urban
and extra-urban driving patterns as described in appendix CA of annex C to GB -2001.
The results of the test shall be expressed as CO2,CO and HC emissions in grams per kilometre
(g/km) rounded to the nearest whole number.
